Procrastination: You can overcome it.

I am sure, like me, many freelancers have had one of those slothful days. It’s a strange phenomenon to describe. You might not have much or any work on, or maybe you have lots. But when you sit down to do some work, you can’t. Your mind wanders, you start procrastinating, and time flies by. [...]

Book Review: The 4 hour work week

The 4 hour work week in actionSpyshot by Annie Mole

Although not a freelancing book as such, this book is well worth a read. Read on for my review of this New York times Best-selling book.

I decided to buy this book about a week ago, after I had seen it as recommended reading by my favorite freelancing book - How to be a Rock star freelancer (By Rockable Press). With such a plug from the Freelance Switch team, I knew it would be brilliant. So a copy was ordered via the sublime Amazon. Another book delivered quickly, and with excellent service, so thanks to Amazon there.

When you start reading this book, you immediately read about the Author, Tim Ferris’, Experience of been a New Rich society member. He’s readying himself to take on a Latin Dance Competition. Throughout the whole book, you’ll find tonnes of stories by Tim, all interesting in their own right. HE’s done all sorts. He’s a national kick-boxing champion, a Latin dancer, a business owner, a traveller… the list goes on. How does he do all this? By working 4 hour weeks, and using the rest of his time to travel, working in foreign & amazing cities.

Your workspace series. Pt 2, Creating a working atmosphere

Messy MessyMessy Messy by Addie Oh Addie

So you’ve followed part 1, and located an ideal spot to work from. You may also have a good idea of how your going to lay things out, and what it will all look like. Now’s the time though when you need to turn that space into an area where you actually want to work. Its not good spending time creating an office, and then finding it doesn’t promote a solid working ethic. Instead, if it distracts you, this could then affect your clients and eventually your profit.

How then, do you create a space that is both welcoming, somewhere that invites you to work, and promotes a good work ethic?

Your home workspace Series. Part 1.

Ibook. Retro :)Big up to Daniel Morris

As a freelancer you have a wonderful privilege, and it might be something you haven’t even thought about yet.

If your puzzled as to what I’m talking about, it’s the fact that we get to chose, when, but most importantly, where, we work. We have the unique ability to be able to tailor our work environment. We can arrange it how we like, and use it how we like. Are you taking that wonderful privilege for granted?
